Many mysteries surround the origins of the name of the city, and there is still no certainty as to the person who created Fez. The latter was founded during the 8th century under the reign of Emperor Idrîss I, but it was not he who founded it, contrary to what is said.

Certain clues suggest that it was his trusted companion, Rachid, who created the city, because coins bearing his effigy, dating from after the death of Idriss I, have recently been found. Idrîss I could not have founded the city, nor even his son, because the latter was barely 10 years old when the first coins bearing the effigy of Rashid began to circulate. It was therefore under the reign of Idriss I that Fez became the first imperial capital of Morocco, although it was probably not an emperor who was at the origin of its creation.

And if we take the trouble to approach this historic passage of Fez, it is because the city is at the origin of the international influence of Morocco. Its history, the mysteries and legends that surround the city of Fez are part of the tourist interests of the city.

No need to go to a library to learn more, just browse the city to discover the imperial remains and the civilizations that have occupied it. Several times become the capital of Morocco, and several times fallen in the shadow of Casablanca or Rabat, Fez continues today to intrigue and amaze the curious.
